Warsaw Advanced Shelters
Nov. 2003 |
The challenge was to build shelter for a Patrol which would maximize protection and warmth.
Saws and axes were allowed to speed
up the process
but the lessons learned can easily be generalized to a survival situation.
We used downed lumber. No trees were cut. There was no shortage of fallen poles.
Green boughs were collected from the
ground where they had been blown from trees.
Boughs from several freshly cut trees out by the road were also collected and
used.
The result was a cozy and warm
shelter.
Hot rocks were brought in to provide warmth on the sub-zero night, but weren't
that necessary.
